Passiflora Edulis - Purple passion fruit is an evergreen fast growing tropical vine that produces aromatic delicious fruits and stunning flowers that attract friendly pollinators such hummingbirds and butterflies.

Passion fruit vines are fast growing and can grow 20-30 ft in a season, and will produce several side shoots, for that reason they require regular pruning and some sort of trellis or support to withstand the heavy weight of the plant and to keep it stable during heavy wind and environmental conditions.

The fruit pulp can be used in Hawaiian punch, yogurt, salads or even in baked deserts. It can also mix well with many drinks.

Pollination:
Purple passion fruit are mostly self-fertile, however, cross-pollinating it with other varieties can produce larger fruit.

Temperature/Climate:
Purple passion fruit varieties can be grown in zones 8-11 in full sun or partial shade and will handle temperatures as low as 30 F. Plant it in pots (5 - 20 gallons) and move it to the garage during freezing temperatures to prevent cold damage.

Watering:
Requires moderate to low watering, it is draught tolerant.
Do not overwater the plant, remember to water away from the stem to encourage root growth and to prevent stem rot and root rot. Mulch heavily 0.5-1 ft away from the stem for best results.

Soil:
The plant is very resilient, it will grow in almost any soil type, however, growing it in a moist well draining soil is preferred.

Fertilizer:
You can use a general balanced fertilizer or a specific tropical plant fertilizer (twice a year).

Care Tips:
Place the vines in shade for the first week to recover from transportation, and check the root mass through the transparent cup to see when it requires up-potting or if it can be placed directly in the ground,
For butterfly gardening make sure to plant it in part shade. For maximum production full sun is preferred.
It will still fruit even in pots as small as 5 gallons, but the recommendation is 10+ gallon pots.
